Postponement of Accessibility Nottingham

Accessibility Nottingham is postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Watch out for the webinar.

Here at Accessibility Nottingham, we pride ourselves on welcoming some of the best and most vocal accessibility and inclusion advocates that Nottingham and the UK has to offer.

Unfortunately, the decision has been made to suspend all event activities due to the Coronavirus (COVID – 19) outbreak, as well as a number of other contributing factors.

This is by no means a decision that we have taken lightly, and through much deliberation, we unanimously agreed that we were left with very little choice but to postpone Accessibility Nottingham.

Why postpone Accessibility Nottingham?

Whilst it’s fairly self-explanatory as to the reasons of cancelling the upcoming, and perhaps subsequent events, we wanted to be open with all of our attendees and advocates. The following reasons were the main points we have chosen not to run the event.

Close contact with others

As an event that is open to absolutely anyone, we usually welcome the community spirit of the event and the conversations that are had. We appreciate that our event space is not a large event environment, and close contact with others is unavoidable.

Vulnerable people

As mentioned, we are an inclusive event, and one that actively encourages vulnerable people, some with pre-existing health conditions, to come and share their experiences. As such, it would be irresponsible for us to continue with the events as planned.

Lack of attendance

Secondary to the points above, some members would’ve taken it upon their own volition to not attend should the event have been running. We don’t want people to miss out on the event because they would feel uncomfortable attending.

In the meantime…

Over the coming weeks, we are looking into the feasibility of turning the meet-up into a webinar so that we can continue to spread the word about Accessibility.

There will be a significant amount of planning that will likely go into this, as we look into the method that will provide the best outcome and ensure that the technical specifications of a webinar is possible. And, that it is the right fit for our speakers.

We will keep you posted throughout. However, this will be the case until we see evidence of virus containment and reduction within Nottinghamshire and the UK.
